The police in Borno State have averted a bomb blast in Maiduguri after they discovered an explosive in a busy mosque.
The
explosive device was found on Friday, December 5, at the exit gate of
the Central Mosque in the Tashan Kano motor park area of the state
capital.
The spokesperson for the state police, Gideon Jibrin confirmed the discovery saying that the device had been found in the mosque during Juma’at prayers.
“On
December 5 at about 1330hrs, the attention of State Intelligence Bureau
(SIB) operatives of the command and civilian JTF men on duty at the
Kano Motor Park, Maiduguri, was drawn to a bunch of suspected Improvised
Explosive Devices concealed in a receptacle and planted near the exit
gate of the Juma'at mosque at the motor park,” Jibrin said.
“Swiftly
reacting to the bomb scare, the bomb disposal unit was promptly drafted
to the scene where they found the IEDs ostensibly targeted at
unsuspecting worshipers who were already in prayers,” he added.
Jibrin stated that members of the bomb disposal unit were able to neutralize the device thus preventing an explosion.
He also urged members of the public to be vigilant and alert so as to inform the police of any suspicious activities around them
