It is rather hard for a woman to get political power in
such country as Nigeria. But there are always some exceptions. Naij.com
made a list of Nigerian women who get the power.
1. Omobola Johnson
Mrs. Omobola Johnson is the Minister of Communication Technology. She
has a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of
Manchester; Master’s in Digital Electronics, King’s College, London;
doctorate in Business Administration, School of Management, Cranfield
University.
She has been working in a variety od industries for more than 25 years. She is the Vice-Chair, Global Agenda Council on Africa, World Economic Forum; Founding Chairperson and Member of the Board of Trustees, Women in Management and Business; Chairperson, UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development; Member, Broadband Commission Working Group on Gender, UNDP. Member, m-Powering Development Advisory Board, ITU; Advisory role to the UN General Assembly and ECOSOC.
2. Sally Mbanefo

Mrs. Sally Mbanefo graduated from the University of Lagos in 1986
with a degree in law. She has 26 years of corporate professional
experience in Banking, Manufacturing, and Oil & Gas sectors, with a
stint in private and social entrepreneurial practice.
She began her career in the Treasury department of Abacus Merchant Bank Limited (one of the first indigenous banks in Nigeria) in 1989 where she spent 15 years. Sally managed two Public Offers for the bank that later became IMB Plc and today FCMB Plc. She is currently the Director General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation.
3. Arunma Oteh

Ms. Arunma Oteh became the Director General of the Securities and
Exchange Commission (SEC), Nigeria, in January 2010. She was elected as a
Chairperson, Africa Middle East Regional Committee (AMERC) of the
International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) in June
2010. She was re-elected as the Chairperson in June 2012 and in
September 2014. Now she is a member of the Nigerian Economic Management
Team (NEMT) chaired by the President of Nigeria and a Director of the
Board of the Pension Commission, Nigeria (PENCOM) and of the Asset
Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON).
Ms. Arunma Oteh is also a Board member of the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) and was a member of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Global Agenda Council on Institutional Governance from 2010 to 2014. This lady is also a British citizen. She graduated with a first-class degree in Computer Science from the University of Nigeria in Nsukka. Alongside she earned her MBA from Harvard Business School.
4. Chinelo Anohu-Amazu

Mrs. Chinelo Anohu-Amazu graduated as a lawyer from the University of
Nigeria, Enugu Campus in 1996, a B.L from the Nigerian Law School in
1997 and an LL.M in Computer and Communications Law from the London
School of Economics in 2000. She also studied in the UAS in the Columbia
University Graduate School in 2008, the J. F. Kennedy School of
Government of the Harvard University in 2007 and the Wharton Business
School, University of Pennsylvania in 2002. This extremely intelligent
lady is now the Director-General of the National Pension Commission. She
has been holding this position since 2012 till present.
5. Diezani Alison-Madueke

Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke has already held 3 important positions in
our government since 2007. She was a Minister of Transportation in
2007-2008. In 2008-2010 she was a Minister of Mines and Steel
Development. Since 2010 she became the first female Minister for
Petroleum Resources. She is the only woman who leads a country’s
delegation to the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
She is the first female President of OPEC as well.
