Don’t Use Make Up On Your Hands At Least Two Weeks Before Elections - Inec Warns

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has told women not to use henna for at least two weeks before the elections to enable easy fingerprint capture when voting.

Henna is popularly known as “lalle” in Hausa, and is used by women in the north to decorate themselves for beauty.
The Bauchi state resident electoral commissioner, Professor Hamman Saad Tukur, made the request in a bid to enlighten people on the card readers, the new technology introduced by the commission for the accreditation of voters, the  Daily Times reports
Prof Tukur observed that with henna in the hands, the card reader will not capture the voter’s fingerprint, thereby wasting the voter’s time and missing the chance to vote.
He explained that the card readers, when charged, will last for 24 hours, while the election is only for 13 hours.
The commissioner assured the gathering that the commission is ready to conduct free, fair and credible elections in the upcoming general elections.

Prof Tukur, however, insisted that anyone suspected or caught buying Permanent Voters Cards should be reported to the appropriate security agencies, reminding voters that such a person is only doing that to reduce the value of their votes and to reduce the chances of their chosen candidates winning.
According to him, section 23 of the Electoral Act, as amended, prohibits such acts and anyone caught and convicted is liable to two months in prison or a fine of N500,000.
It will be recalled that during the senate hearing to which the INEC chairman, Professor Attehiru Jega was summoned, he showed the members of the senate how the card readers will be used during the elections.
