"ON XENOPHOBIA, and MTN
Nigerians will not revenge the Xenophobia violence in South Africa. It is not in our character. We are a peaceful set. Forget Boko Haram and co, they do not represent the majority of Us. That said, I Know some great
South Africans. Paul Peterson, Helen Spiller Petersen, Camillo Robert Lombard, Nic Hazell etc. These guys treated me with so much love and respect while I recorded my first album in Cape Town South Africa, and still do. So not all South Africans are Xenophobic, in fact most are not.
However, MTN should also note that while we are not calling for a reprisal or revenge of the violence meted to Nigerians and other Africans, it is quite insensitive to surreptitiously threaten Nigerians with job losses and economic woes if there is a reprisal. Of primary importance to MTN at this point in time would be to propagate and spread peace and tolerance using their platform. We should see great ads and campaigns urging those with Xenophobic tendencies to retrace their steps and consider their ways. And not just ads to sell products and maximize financial gains and interests. Whatever happen to CSR?
Should everything be weighed in terms of money and economics? The victims of this violence have lost more than money. Dreams have been shattered, lives lost, properties homes shaken. And the least MTN should be concerned about should be to seek some comfort for the hurting and ways to stem this ugly tide, than letting us know how important they are to our existence.
NIGERIA might have some problems, but this is one country that God loves so deeply. His favour is upon this nation. We have been through so much and we are still standing. Have they not learnt from our past how strong and determined a people we are? With due respect to MTN, if they leave today those 6,000 plus workers and the other 500,000 connected with MTN will survive. They should please note they are not doing us a favour. In fact, we have coped patiently with their barely average service delivery. I don't even know where my own MTN line is at the moment. I had to retire it months ago.
Our decision not to revenge is not for economic or financial reasons. Even if MTN and co were not here, we still would not revenge. Our resolve to remain peaceful is because we are a honourable, peaceful and matured nation. And would continue to treat our South African brothers and sisters with respect. Understanding that every human being is important, white or black.
So MTN, calm down, humble yourself. You see this country, NIGERIA? We are BLESSED. The hand of God is so mighty upon us, and recent happenings should attest to that fact. This is not a country you threaten. The more you predict doom, we experience boom. With all we have been through, this country should cease to be a nation by now. Up in flames, and in ruins. But GOD......
Finally, I urge all Nigerians, seek peace. We will not revenge. We would fight back with love. And to the instigators and perpetrators of this shameful act, repent. Remember that what a man sows, he reaps. Tomorrow, you might just be the one on the other side of the divide.
And on a lighter note, I was just given a one year South African visa. Please inbox me if you want it. LOL."
